FAQs

+ What is East Asian Medicine?

East Asian Medicine, also known as Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM, refers to the traditional healing methods that have been used for thousands of years to address imbalances in the body. East Asian Medicine combines an array of healing methods that have originated from China, Japan, and Korea including Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Herbal Medicine, Food as Medicine, Tui Na, and Qi Gong. It is based on a framework that recognizes the inherent wisdom of body systems and the body's ability to heal itself. With East Asian Medicine, it is believed that symptoms and conditions are caused by imbalances in the body, so when the body is brought back into balance, the symptoms and conditions resolve.

+ How does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture is one of the modalities within East Asian Medicine that has been practiced for over 2,000 years. Acupuncture stimulates specific points that have high concentrations of nerve endings, triggering biochemical and physiological changes in the body. Energy (Qi) flows along mapped meridians that run throughout the body. This energy can become blocked or stagnant, causing an imbalance of Yin + Yang, which often results in unfavorable physical, mental, or emotional symptoms and general disharmony. Acupuncture works by reestablishing the flow of Qi along these meridians, harmonizing the body and restoring the delicate balance of Yin + Yang.

+ How many treatments do I need?

That depends on the individual. Acute issues can usually be resolved in a few treatments, while chronic issues will typically take longer to resolve. Taking that into consideration, acupuncture has a cumulative effect, meaning progress and results are gained over time. It is often recommended that patients receive more frequent treatments at first, and depending on the progress and recovery, the regularity of visits may be adjusted.
