Herbs for Optimized Periods [Day 1-5]

IMG_6729.jpg

These four herbs [see below] are important during your menstrual cycle because they 1) help with blood flow and 2) replenish nutrients within your blood.

Dang Gui [Angelica Sinesis]: It’s warming and regulates menstruation by enriching blood and body fluids.

Huang Qi [Astragalus]: It’s an adaptogen that helps support immunity, digestion and boosts energy.

Gou Qi Zi [Goji Berries]: It strengthens blood, fluids and helps with vision.

Da Zao [Chinese/Korean Red Dates]: It’s sweet, warming, helps with digestion, strengthens blood and calms the mind.

I find the easiest & MOST delicious way to incorporate these herbs is through a warming Korean [aka JUK] breakfast porridge.

Recipe:

  • 1/8 cup of Dang Gui

  • 1/8 cup of Huang Qi

  • 1/8 cup of Gou Qi Zi

  • 6 Pieces of Da Zao

  • 1 cup of Rice [I used brown rice]

  • 4-6 cups of Water

  • 4-6 cups of Bone or Vegetable Broth [I used Turkey broth]

Instructions:

  1. Soak the herbs in warm water for a minimum of 20 minutes to overnight.

  2. In your crockpot, put in [cleaned] rice, water, bone broth and your herbs.

  3. Cook for 4-6 hours.

  4. Scoop into bowl. I added a bit of honey and cinnamon to my juk [porridge].

Voila! Enjoy! 😋🙌🏼

Remember it is important to eat these herbs / porridge from Days 1-5 of your period.

P.S. This recipe is also great for all the postpartum moms - it’s the best time to re-regulate and rebuild your hormones. 💪🏼

Also, please note that this recipe is for general wellness. For individualized herbal and food remedies, I always advice to seek out an Acupuncturist / Chinese Medicine practitioner. 😊

We will be discussing more specific herbal/food therapy during the Warrior Woman Project. Looking forward to starting on January 18, 2021!
